The construction of substation would help meet an increase in load electricity demand for new infrastructure and industrial areas in the eastern region of the UAE.

Under the latest contract, the German firm will construct the Shamkha 400/132/33 kV substation on a turnkey basis for Abu Dhabi Transmission & Dispatch Company (Transco), according to Bahrain News Agency.

The company will offer 400kV gas-insulated switchgear, 132kV switchgear, 33kV switchgear, and 500MVA and 120MVA power transformers.

Last year, Siemens had signed a contract with Transco for the construction of the 400kV Mahawi substation, the first of its kind to be developed solely by the firm in the emirates.

Siemens Power Transmission Middle East head Wolfgang Braun commented, "The award of Shamkha substation by Transco further strengthens our strong and long-standing ties with the company and demonstrates the faith the company places in Siemens to deliver challenging projects of high quality and on time."
