Siemens Energy has launched a new direct drive gearless wind turbine for low to moderate wind speeds.

With a capacity of 2.3MW and a rotor diameter of 113 meters, the new SWT-2.3-113 wind turbine is fitted with the new Siemens B55 Quantum blades.

This is the second gearless wind turbine launched by the company.

Siemens wind power business unit CTO Henrik Stiesdal said that the design of the new SWT-2.3-113 is based on the same platform as the revolutionizing SWT-3.0-101 wind turbine Siemens launched last year.

Together with the SWT-2.3-113, Siemens is introducing the Quantum blade which is 55 meters long.
