Siemens is to modernise the Komati coal-fired power plant in Johannesburg, South Africa with new I&C systems to extend its service life by 15 years.

The order, from South Africa’s utility Eskom, is worth around €45 million and will see Seimens deliver its SPPA-T3000 I&C system.

The 1,000 MW Komati station is one of three power plants being recommissioned after being mothballed for an extended period. Recommissioning of the first unit is slated for early 2007. Work on the remaining five units is scheduled for completion by 2009.
