Siemens Power is starting the three year process of expanding its capacity for gas turbine production to over 100 machines to meet worldwide demand, and is investing 21 million euros in new machine tools and the recruitment of around two hundred new employees for its Berlin plant where 50 per cent of the increase will originate. In addition to its own response to the increasing world market, the 1998 acquisition of Westinghouse has opened up the booming American market to the company and made it possible for Siemens to produce turbines to the established Westinghouse design in its Berlin plant. The company believes that producing on both sides of the Atlantic ensures the flexibility to react quickly to changing market conditions.
