Under the contract, Siemens will supply 79 SWT-2.3-108 wind turbines with deliveries set to begin in March 2014 and commissioning in November 2014, as well as carry out service and maintenance of the project.
The service agreement, which covers remote monitoring and diagnostic solutions as well as advanced weather forecasting techniques, will help contribute to the long-term reliability, availability and performance of the turbines.
These service features will help the developer/customer enable predictive maintenance at well-timed periods, which can enhance the plant’s output.
Siemens Energy Wind Power Division CEO Markus Tacke said Pattern Energy, which is one of the company’s most important US customers, has awarded another large project.
"With Panhandle 2 we continue the success story of our well proven and powerful SWT-2,3-108 onshore wind turbine and underline our role as a leading supplier and service provider in the U.S. wind power market," added Tacke.
Pattern Energy CEO Mike Garland said the project will use Siemens turbines with rotor blades and nacelles that are made in the US, creating manufacturing jobs, in addition to hundreds of local construction jobs.
"These American-made Siemens turbines will harness the power of the wind at one of the windiest sites in Texas, creating a strong new source of clean energy without using any of the region’s limited water supplies," added Garland.
