Once commissioned at two different locations, the SGT5-2000E turbines will deliver a combined 850MW for the Sudanese national grid.
The power plant units are expected to begin operations on a commercial basis by the end of 2017.
Siemens Power and Gas Division CEO Willi Meixner said: "Our power plant engineering is making a decisive contribution to very rapidly improving the power supply system in Sudan.
"We're thus in a position to help the people of Republic of the Sudan to develop a modern yet affordable electrification system that brings forward efforts to advance the nation's economic and social development.
Apart from the E-class gas turbines, the German engineering company will also provide five SGen5-100A generators related to them along with its SPPA-T3000 control systems.
Three of the gas turbine machines will be installed at the Garri Power Station, located in Garri, north of Sudan’s capital Khartoum. The other two turbine machines will be installed in Port Sudan along the Red Sea coast.
Initially, the five turbine-generator machines are intended to be made online as simple-cycle gas-turbine power plant units, said their developer.
In the long run, steam turbines are planned to be installed as add-ons to extend the units to combined cycle configurations.
The five gas turbines can fire both light diesel oil and heavy fuel oil apart from natural gas.
Two of them were manufactured in Berlin, Germany while the remaining three were made in Saint Petersburg, Russia. They are said to be nearly ex-works shipment and will be delivered to Sudan from Erfurt in Germany.
In late November, Siemens bagged a contract to supply Argentina with seven SGT-800 industrial gas turbines and two Industrial Trent 60 gas turbines.
