Siem Offshore Contractors (SOC) has secured a contract from SHL Offshore Contractors to supply and install an inner array cable system at the 588MW Beatrice offshore wind farm in Scotland.
The contract requires SOC to carry out submarine cable installation works and offer related materials and services.
SOC will also deliver cable protection systems and associated accessories, as well as provide post-installation termination, trenching and testing services.
Offshore works for the cable system are due to start next year, while the wind farm is expected to start services by the end of the third quarter of 2018.
SSE owns 40% stake in the Beatrice project, while Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners and China’s SDIC Power hold 35% and 25% interests, respectively.
Situated about 13km of the Caithness coast line in the Outer Moray Firth on the north-western point of the Smith Bank, the wind farm will feature 84 Siemens turbines.
The turbines will be inter-linked by an inner array grid of 91x 33 kV medium voltage alternating current submarine composite cables with a total length of about 164km.
After completion, the project can produce enough clean electricity to power more than 400,000 homes in the UK.
Siemens will be responsible for turbine service and maintenance under a 15-year contract, which also covers remote monitoring and diagnostics.
