Both the firms will use Wuxi Suntech as the exclusive photovoltaic (PV) panel supplier for the projects, which are expected to range in size from 10MW to 40MW.
Suntech will provide its 60 Cell polycrystalline modules for the projects, which are anticipated to deliver a combined capacity of about 400MW in 2014 and 500MW in 2015.
Suntech CEO Eric Luo said the UK has a goal to generate about 30% of its electricity from renewable sources by 2020, but we cannot wait until 2020.
"Record pollution levels are hitting London and the south of England today. We are teaming with Greenfield to help the UK end its dependence on polluting fossil energy sources and are eager to help turn the UK’s aggressive renewable energy targets into a near-term reality," Luo said.
"Solar is one of the fastest generation assets that you can build, which is why the UK is a prime market for Suntech products."
As part of the partnership, Shunfeng will supply PV inverters to the projects, while Greenfield will provide EPC services.
Shunfeng Photovoltaic International chairman Zhang Yi said, "Based on Suntech’s strong market presence in the solar cell and solar module market in Europe, the cooperation with Greenfield can strengthen the sales channel and secure orders for our solar products and entrench our market position in the global PV market."
