The facility generates clean electricity to power around 56,000 homes in the region.

Pacific Gas & Electric will purchase the clean energy generated at the solar facility under a 20-year contract.

Commenting on the project, Sempra US Gas & Power Renewables vice president Kevin C. Sagara said the completion of the Phase I of the solar complex is a key moment for the state of Arizona as it continues to establish itself as a renewable energy leader.

Arizona Secretary of State Ken Bennett said, "Sempra US Gas and Power has demonstrated remarkable leadership with this project, and we look to continue working together to fully build-out the Mesquite Solar Complex."

Construction on Mesquite Solar 1 began in June 2011 and 500 local construction jobs were created during the construction phase along with 10 long-term positions.

Currently, the company has another 308MW under construction at its Copper Mountain Solar 2 and Copper Mountain Solar 3 facilities in Boulder City, Nevada.
