Under the 20-year contract, Sempra Generation will sell 150MW of solar power from its Mesquite Solar 1 facility in the US state of Arizona.

The approval allows the company to start construction on the photovoltaic solar power project in June, with the completion expected in early 2013.

Upon completion, Mesquite Solar 1 plant will generate enough electricity to power approximately 56,000 average homes.

The 150MW power plant is the first phase of Sempra Generation’s planned 700MW Mesquite Solar complex in Arizona.

San Diego-based Sempra Generation is a developer of solar and wind facilities that serve US markets.
