Semirara Mining Corporation has suspended operations at mine in central Philippines following an accident that resulted in the death of three workers.

A landslide, according to local reports, initially trapped 13 workers when the west wall of the Panian pit collapsed.

Mine resident manager George San Pedro revealed that three miners were rescued.

"The management is in the process of determining the cause of the accident. Meanwhile, it has stopped operations to ensure the safety of all its personnel," Pedro said

Regional disaster-response officer Rosario Cabrera was also quoted as saying that authorities are working with the company to aid rescue.

Semirara confirmed that the rescue operations were underway and the company plans to resume operations at an appropriate time.

The company had recently secured government coal supply contracts coal from its Antique mine in the Oriental Mindoro and Sarangani provinces.
