The bidding was conducted by Solar Energy Corp of India, a company owned by the Government of India’s Ministry of new and Renewable Energy.

The wind farm project will located in the state of Tamil Nadu and the entire power generated from it will be sold under a 25 year power purchase agreement to the Power Tradition Corp.

Total cost of the wind project is estimated to be around INR 19bn ($295m). Sembcorp plans to fund the project through internal funds and debt.

Development of the project is expected to take place in phases and it could be fully commissioned in the second half of Indian financial year ending March 31, 2019.

With the project, Sembcorp will increase its presence in India’s energy market, particularly in the renewables sector. It already has about 3.8GW of power capacity in operation and under development in the country, comprising of both thermal and renewable energy.

“We will be locating the project in Tamil Nadu, a high-wind state, and plan to work closely with suppliers and contractors to deliver the project successfully.”

Besides, the company has more than 2GW of renewable energy projects in Singapore, China, India and the UK which comprise of wind, solar, biomass power assets.
