Under the contract, Seaway Heavy Lifting will install the substation platform, which features a jacket, skirt piles and deck, in 2016 using the Stanislav Yudin vessel.
Being jointly developed by Vattenfall and the city of Munich public utility Stadtwerke München, the €1.2bn wind farm will be built 90km west of the Sylt island in water depths between 25m and 37m within the exclusive economic zone off the German North Sea coast.
Commenting on the substation contract, Seaway Heavy Lifting SVP for commercial Koen van der Perk said: "We are very pleased with the confidence that Bladt Industries A/S has expressed in Seaway Heavy Lifting.
"We have a very good track record in the installation of substations for the Renewables industry. This project puts another mark in the sand."
The wind facility, which would generate 1.4 terawatt-hours of energy per year for about 400,000 homes, will feature Siemens Energy’s 72 SWT-4.0-130 turbines.
Slated for commissioning in 2017, the Sandbank wind farm is located 100km north-west to the island of Sylt, next to Vattenfall and Stadtwerke München’s 288MW DanTysk wind farm.
