A contract to refurbish two hydro power stations in Scotland, worth some £8M (US$14M) has been awarded to a consortium of Weir Engineering Services of the UK, ABB Combustion Services of the UK and ABB Generation of Sweden. The contract covers complete electrical and mechanical refurbishment of the three 25MW Francis turbine generators and associated plant at the Errochty station, and of one 0.5MW Turgo turbine generator and associated plant at Trinafour. Design work on the project has already begun, and completion is scheduled for December 2000.

The project is part of plant owner Scottish Hydro-Electric’s strategy to refurbish all its major hydro plant.
