To be built on a site with solar irradiation, the Utah Red Hills Renewable Energy Park is expected to generate around 210 million kilowatt hours (kWh) of electricity in its first full year of operation.
The electricity will be fed into the grid under a 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with PacifiCorp, which delivers electricity to customers in Utah, Wyoming, and Idaho through Rocky Mountain Power.
Being developed on around 650 acres of land in Parowan, the plant will consist of approximately 325,000 PV modules on a single-axis tracking system, interconnecting to an existing PacifiCorp 138kV line in the adjacent Parowan Valley substation.
Construction of the ground-mounted photovoltaic solar facility plant, which is claimed to be Utah’s largest solar energy generation facility upon completion, is estimated to start in the third quarter of 2014.
Utah Governor Gary Herbert said, "By supporting projects like the Red Hills Renewable Energy Park and other utility-scale renewable energy facilities, Utah will remain a premier destination for business, jobs, and an enviable quality of life for our residents."
Scatec Solar signed the agreement with PacifiCorp for the purchase of all of the project’s energy output and capacity in December 2013.
