SOCC Board chairman Khalil Ibrahim Ibn Salamah said the project is a natural extension of the growth being experienced by the regional petrochemical industry.

The construction phase of the new project is scheduled for completion in the fourth quarter of next year in the Middle East.

The facility will manufacture 6,000 metric tons/yr of tri-ethyl aluminum, a Ziegler Natta co-catalyst used in the plastics industry.

SOCC is a joint venture equally owned by Albemarle Netherlands, a subsidiary of Albemarle Corp and SABIC affiliate, Saudi Specialty Chemical Company.

Albemarle COO John Steitz said Albemarle joins SABIC in a venture to provide key catalyst raw materials to the company’s customers in a highest growth region for petrochemical production.
