Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Energy, Industry and Mineral Resources has issued a request for qualification (RFQ) for 400 MW of wind power capacity in Dumat Al Jandal, in the north of the country.
The tender is part of Saudi Arabia’s National Renewable Energy Programme (NREP) and build on a tender issued earlier this year for 300 MW of solar photovoltaic (PV) capacity.
The Dumat Al Jandal wind farm will be the kingdom’s first utility-scale wind project. Qualified bidders will be able to submit proposals for the project ahead of a January 2018 deadline.
The NREP calls for the installation of 9.5 GW of renewable energy by 2023. Saudia Arabia’s government says it will announce the winning bidder of the 300 MW Sakaka PV project in November 2017.
