The company started installation of a polarized film production line and a paste production line in September last year.

Presently, the PV paste production line is complete and the operations at this line will start next month.

At present, the PV paste line can produce about 40 tons a month and Samsung SDI plans to increase the production to about 100 tons a month, in the future.

Samsung SDI said that 70% of the world’s photovoltaic module makers are present China and it forecasts that it can expand its market share in the coming months.

Apart from centering around Wuxi plant and China, Samsung SDI wants to explore the whole southeast Asian markets including Thailand, Malaysia and India, where there is a bigger scope for development in these emerging solar markets.

At the recently held Shanghai New International Expo Centre (SNEC) PV Power Expo 2016, Samsung unveiled ‘8800 series’, its new photovoltaic paste.

Samsung claims that the 8800 series has an improved sunlight-to-electricity conversion efficiency with the present conversion being 18-20% and the industry is developing technological developments to improve efficiency as much as possible.

Samsung SDI electronic materials business division vice president Song Chang Lyong said: "We have improved market responsiveness by starting Wuxi Plant operation and releasing new products that are applied to high-efficiency solar cells.

"With this, we will advance to a true leader in the global photovoltaic market."

Samsung SDI started its solar cell past business in 2010, based on its PDP electrcode material technology which the company claims has made it a leader in the global market.
