The RWE subsidiaries, RWE Rhein-Ruhr in Essen, RWE Westfalen-Weser-Ems in Dortmund and Lechwerke in Augsburg are also involved. A contract on the joint construction of the hard coal-fired power plant at Hamm had been signed with municipal partners back in February 2008.
The co-operation is designed to cover national and international projects in the areas of wind power, biomass, geothermal energy and biomethane plants. RWE intends to reach an agreement with interested companies and municipalities on the key points by the autumn of 2008.
Juergen Grossmann, RWE’s CEO, said: We are convinced of the success of such co-operation schemes, not only when it comes to conventional power plants, but also for renewable energies. In this way we can do something about the looming supply gap and reduce CO2 emissions at the same time.
