RWE holds a 70% share in this joint venture. The Greek power plant builders Metka are responsible for constructing the plant and components such as gas and steam turbines will be supplied by Siemens.
Construction of the plant is expected to start in 2010 and the plant is expected to be commissioned at the end of 2012 if all goes according to plan, the company said.
Leonhard Birnbaum, chief strategic officer of RWE, said: “The state-of-the-art combined cycle gas turbine plant with an efficiency rate of more than 55% will make an decisive contribution towards securing supply in Turkey.
“The Turkish market is attractive and we wish to carry out a few more projects in order to participate in the growth opportunities the country offers.”
The construction contract covers all necessary preparations for start of construction. RWE will probably make the final investment decision in the first quarter of 2010, once the building permission has been granted.
