Nuclear facilities, radiation sources, nuclear material storage facilities, radioactive waste storage facilities and nuclear materials of the Sebastopol State University (SevSU) have been put on the list of Russian nuclear facilities subject to continuous state supervision. The changes were endorsed by a Russian government directive of 3 August. Continuous state supervision requires officers of regulator Rostechnadzor to be stationed at the facilities to oversee safety and to ensure safety measures are in place.

Since October 2014, SevSU has includes the Sebastopol National Nuclear Power and Industry University (formerly the Higher School of Navy Engineers, which educated specialists for the nuclear submarine fleet of the USSR). The 200kW pool-type IR-100 research reactor is part of the scientific equipment of this university.
