THE RUSSIAN POWER ENGINEERING machine-building company Siloviye Mashiny (Power Machines) has won the tender to supply 4x64MW power generating units for the Makkul hydroelectric station in Iraq. Other participants in the tender process were two firms from China and French multi national alstom. The tenders were solicited by the General Company for Electric Projects of the Iraqi Ministry of Energy.
The contract will be implemented by Russian power engineering machine-builders on a turnkey basis. The total estimated cost of the contract amounts to approximately US$77M. The equipment is expected to be delivered in 2003-7 within the framework of the UN Oil for Food programme. The hydroelectric power station is scheduled to be commissioned in 2009 after completion of the installation.
