Kyrgyzstan is planning to contract an un-named Russian company to manage its national power grid.

According to Kyrgyz President Kurmanbek Bakiyev, the power sector is facing three main problems including energy theft, netting and barter which cause price rises, and a lack of investment in the sector.

“We have a company which is ready to put the national power grid in order,” he said. “And we should meet its wishes, but without raising tariffs.”

Parliament is expected to discuss the issue during the autumn and is expected to consider leasing a concession for the local electricity distribution companies.
