The Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) head Ali Akbar Salehi told Press TV: "We have signed an agreement with Russia to build two more nuclear power plants in [the southern Iranian city of] Bushehr.
Construction work on the two nuclear power plants, which would produce electricity without polluting the environment, is expected to commence next year, Salehi said.
Tasnim News Agency? quoted Salehi as saying: "The second Bushehr nuclear power plant will join the country’s national grid by the next 8 years and the third (nuclear power) plant will be constructed two years after that."
Iran is planning to generate 20,000MW of electricity from nuclear power, reports Tasnim News Agency.
Iran commissioned its only Bushehr nuclear power plant, with a power generation capacity of 1,000MW, and was connected to Iran’s national grid in September 2011.
Currently being operated under the full supervision of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the NPP plant had reached its maximum power generation capacity in August 2012.
