General contractor Power Machines has replaced its hydro generator, auxiliaries, control and instrumentation system, and also a thyristor excitation system, as part of a long-term contract signed in 2011.
Power Machines is also responsible for the removal and installation of equipment, and for installation supervision and pre-commissioning.
Till date, 13 hydro turbines and three out of 22 generators at the Volzhskaya facility have been replaced, while the remaining units will be upgraded by 2021.
The equipment has been modernized as part of RusHydro Comprehensive Renovation Program.
Scheduled to be carried out until 2025, the RUB58.4bn ($952.8m) Volzhskaya HPP Comprehensive Renovation Program includes the renewal of automatic control systems for hydropower units and 500kV outdoor switchgear equipment.
The scope of the program also includes upgrade of 220kV outdoor switchgear; and replacement of 220kV and 500kV power transformers, spillway gate and other hydromechanical equipment.
The Comprehensive Renovation Program aims to boost reliability and performance of the equipment while increasing the installed capacity of Volzhskaya power plant’s by 147MW by the end of 2025.
