Under the potential agreement, the companies will chalk out financing principles and develop proposals on electricity sales for the new generating capacities and then submit their joint proposals to the governments of Russia and China for consideration.
The recent floods, caused due to heavy rainfall, in the Far East of Russia and north-eastern region of China in 2013 have necessitated working out measures to contain such risks in the future and both the companies are interested in jointly developing such facilities.
During the floods, RusHydro’s reservoirs of Zeyskaya and Bureyskaya hydropower plants have controlled the flood impact by accumulating around two thirds of the flood flow volume that prevented the levels of Amur River in Blagoveschensk from reaching its historic peak levels.
