China has put into operation the first power plant using indigenous technology for generating power from waste. The plant is located in eastern China, in Zhejiang Province.
The new plant is capable of burning 320 t of rubbish each days and will generate 25GWh each year. Emissions from the plant, tested by the Chinese Academy of Sciences, are said to be below national emission limits. The privately run facility has been cited by the state as a demonstration project for power from waste technology.
