Managed by the Republic of Mozambique Institute of National Petroleum (Instituto Nacional de Petróleo), the license round comprises 15 blocks in Rovuma, Angoche, Zambezi offshore fields, and Pande-Temane and Palmeira onshore fields.

ExxonMobil is expected to serve as the operator of the fields upon securing the contract.

Rosneft said in a statement: "The prospectivity assessment for the exploration on these contract areas was confirmed within the cooperation of both companies’ geological analysis."

Participation in exploration and development projects in Mozambique is in line with Rosneft’s plan to strengthen its presence in regions with significant hydrocarbon potential.

Rosneft and ExxonMobil partnered in 2011, to jointly explore and develop hydrocarbon resources across the world.
