The firms aim to cooperate inside and outside of South Africa.
South African nuclear energy corporation Necsa, Russia’s Atomstroyexport and Nukem Technologies of Germany have agreed to cooperate in complex capital projects.
The firms have defined priority areas for developing joint engineering and construction projects and business opportunities.The three key areas are: nuclear and thermal power facilities; facilities and solutions for nuclear waste and spent fuel treatment and storage; and solutions for decommission and remediation of nuclear and other hazardous facilities.
The agreement targets projects and initiatives in the nuclear industry in South Africa, as well as partnerships with South African nuclear and power companies. The firms are also aiming to work together in markets outside of South Africa and on global supply chain development.
The memorandum of understanding was signed during the Nuclear Industry Suppliers Forum, ATOMEX Africa, held on November 25, in Johannesburg, South Africa.
South African state-owned Necsa is involved in engineering, design and manufacturing operations for and at nuclear facilities in South Africa and for customers throughout the world. Nukem Technologies GmbH specializes in management of radioactive waste andspent fuel, decommissioning of nuclear facilities, and engineering and consulting services. The company is 100% owned by Russia’s Atomstroyexport, which is involved in design, construction and decommissioning of nuclear power plants both in Russia and abroad.
