Canada's L-3 Mapps has won a contract from state-owned Romanian utility Nuclearelectrica to upgrade the Cernavodă nuclear plant's full scope simulator's emulation of the plant digital control computers (DCCs).
Canada’s L-3 Mapps has won a contract from state-owned Romanian utility Nuclearelectrica to upgrade the Cernavoda nuclear plant’s full scope simulator’s emulation of the plant digital control computers (DCCs).
Cernavoda comprises two 700MWe Candu-6 pressurised heavy water reactors. DCC systems are used to monitor and control the major reactor and power plant functions at Candu NPPs.
L-3 Mapps said the project will start immediately and the upgraded software is expected to be in service on the simulator in the first quarter of 2017.
Nuclearelectrica has worked with L-3 Mapps since 1984 to develop the Cernavoda plant computers for units 1 and 2 and the full scope operator training simulator, said a statement.
Earlier Canada-based engineering and construction group SNC-Lavalin has was awarded a contract by BWXT Canada Ltd for the primary side cleaning of the steam generator tubes at Cernavoda 1.
