UK-based Rolls-Royce has secured a contract about £11m to design and deliver equipment to two offshore vessels for Brazilian ship owner Asgaard Navegação.

The two Oil Spill Response Vessels (OSRV) type UT 535 E vessels will be built at the Brazilian shipyard Aliança Industria Naval e Empresa de Navegacao, a subsidiary of Fischer Group.

As part of the contract, Rolls-Royce will deliver design and equipment packages, including propulsion systems, thrusters, DP systems, power electrical systems, automation and control systems, deck machinery, and MTU engines.

The two vessels, which are capable of transferring extracted oil for proper onshore disposal, feature systems designed to prevent damage from oil spills.

The two vessels for Asgaard are expected to be delivered in 2015, with an option to build two more.

Rolls-Royce offshore president Anders Almestad said that Asgaard is a new customer to us and working closely together with them during the construction of these advanced vessels will be vital.
