Planned to be drilled to total depth of 3,600m measured depth below rotary table (MDRT), the QK12-3-1D well will test the oil potential of a 3-way dip closed structure which was determined by 3D seismic data.

The well has two primary objectives including drilling of Miocene age reservoirs, which comprises Guantao reservoirs and Pliocene age Minghuazhen reservoirs

The secondary objective is to target Oligocene age Dongying reservoir.

Drilling work is planned to be completed in 26 days.

AWE mapped several prospects with similar geological structures in the close proximity to the QK12-3-1D prospect.

Located in the western part of the Bohai Bay Basin in China, approximately 10km southeast of Tanggu, the block is spread over an area of 335km2 in water depths from approximately 5m to 10m.

ROC operates the block with 60% stake while AWE owns the remaining 40% interest.

The first exploration well, QK11-1-1, was drilled using CPOE Rig 33, to a total depth of approximately 4,000m.

The block is located approximately 15km north of ROC’s existing Zhao Dong production.

AWE acquired 40% stake in 2014 in the block for $2m.
