Less than one year after construction and installation works began at Norway’s Riksheimdal hydro project, the plant, located on the Riksheim river, has been connected to the grid.

Rinksheimdal

The Norwegian-based entity of Voith Siemens Hydro was awarded the turnkey contract for the works in April 2003 together with Nord-Trondelag Energiverk (NTE). Supply includes a state-of-the-art electro-mechanical package with a Pelton turbine rated at an output of 4.6MW at a head of 380m, a new power house and 3000mof penstock for Sykkylven Energi AS.

Solutions had to be chosen carefully to preserve the original impression of the landscape. For this reason, the power house was built as a traditional timber log house with a grass roof that blends into the surrounding area. The highly optimized iron penstock will also be laid in a trench covered by soil.

Riksheimdal was built to utilize the water between an existing water reservoir and an old small hydro power plant, located in the western part of Norway.
