The new energy storage system will be located in Miramar community in San Diego, California. As per the agreement with SDG&E, RES will provide engineering, procurement and construction services (EPC) along with a 20 year ‘full wrap’ asset management and performance guarantee service for the project.
The project needs approval from the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC). SDG&E expects to begin construction of the project in the next 18 months.
When completed, the energy storage project will provide enough electricity to power at least 20,000 US homes for four hours without any interruptions.
RES said that the energy storage system will not use container-based layouts, which are spread across large areas. Instead, it will be designed to fit within a single building, with the entirety of plant fitting in space of one acre.
RES’ chief technology officer Andrew Oliver said: "This project will have a great impact for SDG&E and its customers.
"The RESolve ESS provides safe, reliable, and economic solutions for the utility and its customers."
In March, the company received awarded a contract to oversee develop and operations of two 1MW solar plants in City of Johnson City in Tennessee.
RES has been providing engineering, construction and operations services to utility-scale wind, solar, transmission and energy storage markets across the Americas. It has over 9GW of utility-scale renewable energy and energy storage projects in its portfolio, with more than 1000 miles of transmission lines throughout the US.
