Renewable Energy Systems (RES) has started construction on the 99.1MW Redbed Plains wind farm in the US.

Located in Grady County, Oklahoma, just southwest of Oklahoma City, the wind farm is owned by EDP Renewables North America’s (EDPR NA).

The wind farm will include 48 of Siemens Gamesa’s 2MW turbines. It has an interconnection agreement with American Electric power (AEP).

Construction phase of the project is expected to create about 250 jobs in the locality. Completion of the contract will result in increasing RES’ construction/ development portfolio of wind energy to up to 1.1GW in the state of Oklahoma.

As per the American Wind Energy Association, Oklahoma ranks third in the country with over 6.6GW of installed wind power.

Construction of the project is scheduled to be completed in the fourth quarter of this year.

RES construction senior vice president Jason Zingerman said; “Redbed Plains marks a significant milestone for RES, as it is our eighth wind project in Oklahoma.

“We look forward to continued work with landowners and major stakeholders to bring the economic benefits of renewable energy to the Sooner State.”

EDP Renewables North America Technical executive vice president Phillip Westerby said: “EDPR NA will expand its footprint to more than 600 MW of operational wind projects in Oklahoma with the completion of the Redbed Plains Wind Farm.

“The company remains committed to providing clean, renewable energy throughout North America.”

RES, which has been operating in North America since 1999, has a renewable energy and storage portfolio in excess of 9GW, in over 100 projects, along with the construction of more than 1000 miles of overhead and transmission lines.
