The wind power, which is to be delivered, will be sourced from Origin Wind Energy project in southeast Oklahoma. This project will see deployment of 75 turbines.
According to the company, Origin Wind Energy project is expected to become operational by the end of 2014.
Renewable Energy Systems Americas Development senior vice president Tom Hiester said the purchase of wind power demonstrates AECC’s advanced approach to diversifying their portfolio.
AECC president and chief executive officer Duane Highley said, "The latest addition of 150 megawatts of low-cost wind energy provides AECC with a hedge against fluctuating natural gas energy prices.
"AECC will have 201 megawatts of wind energy in its generation assets with this addition. We will continue to pursue energy options that allow AECC’s member cooperatives to provide reliable electricity at the lowest possible cost."
