The wind turbine has a rated power of 6.15MW and is the first of 48 units of REpower 6MW turbine to be constructed in the phase 2 and phase 3 of the Belgian offshore wind farm Thornton Bank.

The installation of the first 30 turbines for phase 2 of the wind farm is planned for 2012, and a further 18 are designated for installation during a third extension stage by mid-2013.

The company’s scope of delivery for second and third phases of the wind farm covers production and delivery of the nacelles, towers, blades and hubs as well as pre-installation in the port of Oostende.

REpower will also oversee the installation, the commissioning and the test run of the turbines.

The first phase of the offshore wind farm, for which REpower delivered and installed six turbines of the 5MW type, was officially put into operation at the end of June 2009.

Since it started operation, Thornton Bank generated nearly 350,000MWh of electricity.
