Capable of generating enough electricity to power nearly 25,000 homes, the 20MW renewable energy project has been developed by Republic Services in partnership with Sunshine Gas Producers, a joint venture between DTE Biomass Energy and Aria Energy.
Aria Energy president and CEO Richard DiGia said: "Aria Energy is very pleased to join Republic Services and DTE Biomass in bringing online Sunshine Canyon, our 44th renewable energy project and sixth project with DTE Biomass.
"This project is directly aligned with our business strategy and will further help fulfill California’s 33% renewable energy goal through our investment in this baseload electric production facility."
Republic Services currently has a total of 73 LFGTE projects in the US, generating electricity to power more than 250,000 homes a year.
The recycling and non-hazardous solid waste firm operates 480 hauling routes a day to serve more than 100 jurisdictions in Los Angeles county. It operates six transfer stations, one recycling center and a landfill in the area.
