The company paid a cash consideration of $2.6m for the former BullDog Biodiesel operation.
Located in Ellenwood, the multi-feedstock facility will now operate as REG Atlanta.
REG president and CEO Daniel Oh said that REG is focused on strategically expanding its footprint of biodiesel production facilities.
"Once repaired, upgraded and restarted the REG Atlanta facility will offer us additional long-term capacity to meet high-demand diesel markets across the Southeast," Oh added.
Between April 2011 and April 2012, the facility catered to REG’s biodiesel sales in the Southeast, after which operations closed due to a combination of declining market conditions and requirement for facility upgrades.
REG manufacturing vice president Brad Albin noted, "Our team has demonstrated a successful model for integrating new technologies into our network and upgrading facilities to utilize lower cost raw materials."
The refinery produces biodiesel from various feedstocks including used cooking oil.
