Power projects operator Reliance Power is anticipated to file a petition with Central Electricity Regulatory Commission seeking tariff increase for its Tilaiya coal-fired ultra mega power project (UMPP) in Jharkhand.

Reliance Power is expected to seek the power tariff increase for the 4GW project owing to an increase in the raw material costs.

The company won a tender from Power Finance Corporation in January 2009 for developing the Tilaiya project, quoting a power tariff of INR1.77 per unit.

The project was allocated Kerandari ‘B’ and ‘C’ captive coal mine blocks – having reserves of almost 1.3 billion. The mines are located at a distance of 115km from the project site.

Tilaiya UMPP is being developed by Jharkhand Integrated Power, a subsidiary of Reliance Power.

Along with the Tilaiya project, Reliance Power also won tenders for Krishnapatnam and Sasan UMPPs in Andhra Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh, respectively.

Earlier, the company also filed four petitions with CERC seeking power tariff revision for Sasan project.
