Raytheon, the US engineering and construction company, has announced that it will lead a consortium that has won a hydro dam project in Turkey. The consortium includes equip- ment supplier ABB, Turkish engineering firm Dolsar and Turkish constructor Kiska.
Raytheon Infra-structure, a unit of Raytheon Engineers and Constructors, has been awarded the engineering contract
for the Hakkari dam and
hydro power plant which
will include geotechnical
exploration, engineering and design. The Raytheon consortium will also be responsible for the construction phase of the project under a separate contract which will be awarded once the engineering has
been completed. The scheme will include a 170m high
rockfill dam, an 11km tunnel and a 208MW hydro power
station on the Zap river. Once completed the Hakkari project will supply power to the southeast Anatolia region of Turkey.
Raytheon is currently designing and constructing the 345MW San Roque project in the Philippines, under a US$700M turnkey contract. Commissioned by the National Power Corporation (Napocor), the US$1.1B project is headed by the San Roque Power Corporation, a consortium of Sithe Energies
Group, Marubeni Corporation of Japan, and Kansai
Electric. Under a 25-year build-operate-transfer agreement Napocor will buy the entire annual output of the 345MW hydro power plant, estimated at 947GWh/yr.
The multi-purpose project will also aid irrigation
by redirecting water from the Agno river to 70,500-87,000ha of agricultural land in the Pagasinan, Nueva Ecija and Tarlac provinces.
