The construction of the 570MW, US$480M Ralco hydro project is to be stopped again. This time the work is being halted by Endesa, the Chilean utility developing the dam. Endesa-Chile says it will stop work on the project on 1 March 2000 as Endesa has still not received the final permits for the Ralco project and its transmission lines from the government. Despite Indian opposition, the project has been given the government’s environmental approval.
