The plant, to be located in the unorganized territory Lac-a-la-Croix in the MRC de La Mitis, will have 12 turbines of REpower Systems.
EDF EN Canada project development director Alex Couture said that EDF Energies Nouvelles welcomes with great pride the government decree authorizing the construction and operation of La Mitis Community Wind Project.
"We sincerely thank the Government of Quebec for its permission to proceed with this innovative project," Couture added.
"We share ownership of this project with Energie renouvelable de la Mitis who invests in a proportion of 30%.
"An annual voluntary contribution of $61,500 will be paid by the project during the 20-year operational phase to the MRC of La Mitis.
"In addition, a contribution of $200,000 into a Community Development Fund will occur at the time of commissioning."
The construction of the plant is expected to start in Spring 2014 and will finish in 2014.
