JBOG will help Qatar in reducing carbon emissions from the liquefied natural gas (LNG) industry.
The project will recover the gas flared during LNG loading at the six LNG berths in Ras Laffan Port.
Flaring at the six berths is expected to reduce by 90%, which is equivalent to annual Green House Gas (GHG) savings of 1.6 million tonnes of CO2.
JBOG will collect 29 billion standard cubic feet (bscf) of gas annually, which is enough to produce 750MW of power.
Qatargas chairman and CEO Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi said: "The JBOG Project demonstrates the commitment of the State of Qatar to balance industrial development with care for the environment and reinforces our pioneering and leadership role in the energy industry."
Operated by Qatargas on behalf of Qatar Petroleum and RasGas Company, the project has been developed as part of the Common Facilities Projects at RLIC.
Qatargas CEO Khalid bin Khalifa Al Thani said: "Qatargas is committed to being a key contributor in the realisation of Qatar’s National Vision 2030 to have a proactive and significant international role in assessing the impact of climate change through the responsible production of LNG while protecting the environment for our future generations to come."
JBOG houses the largest low pressure compressors in the world, supplied by General Electric (GE).
Recovery of LNG began in October 2014, when jetty boil-off gas was recovered from over 500 ships.
