Pöyry has secured an engineering and consultancy services contract from Energy Invest Holding for the Dzora hydropower plant (HPP) rehabilitation project in Armenia.

Built on the Dzoraget river, the Dzora HPP commenced its operations in November 1932.

As part of the contract, Pöyry will prepare an inventory of the damages on the concrete structures and hydromechanical equipment.

It will also evaluate the decreased operability and durability of the hydro-scheme based on a risk analysis.

Besides, It will identify geological and geotechnical potential causes for the damages for the preparation of proper countermeasures.

Pöyry Energy Business Group president Richard Pinnock said: "Delivering clean, renewable energy projects in this region further strengthens Pöyry's position as one of the world's leading hydropower engineering consultancies.”

The value of the contract is not revealed and the order will be included in the Energy Business Group order stock in the first half of 2017.

In March, Pöyry secured a contract from Phonesack Group for the 650MW Nam Theun 1 hydro electric project in Lao People’s Democratic Republic.

The hydro electric power project is located at Nam Kading River, about 33km upstream of its joining with the Mekong River and 270km from Vientiane in Central Laos.

The project plays a significant role in the Lao and Thai Power development plan and is considered to increase electricity supply for both the countries.
