Puget Sound Energy (PSE) has entered into an agreement with Iberdrola Renewables to purchase electricity generated by the Klamath gas-fired power plant in southern Oregon, US.

The power purchase agreement will help PSE meet the peak power needs of its customers and the transaction takes effect from 1 January 2012.

Under the contract, PSE will get 100MW of energy from the single-cycle ‘peaker’ generating facility in Klamath Falls.

Iberdrola has also an option to supply the electricity from its adjacent 506MW Klamath cogeneration plant.

PSE currently self-generates about 46% of its customers’ electric energy, with the rest purchased from other power producers.
