The projects expected to start in January 2011, will enhance the quality of used water and also produce industrial-grade water in line with the Singapore government’s plan to grow the nation as the regional hub for water technology research and development.
Having identified water as a key engine of growth for the Singapore economy, the government is encouraging investments and ventures from overseas and local companies and planning to invest SGD330m over five years to make Singapore as a test-bed for new water treatment technologies.
NEDO president Takefumi Fukumizu said that in addition to conducting research and development of water technologies in Japan, NEDO is focused on the promotion of these technologies overseas and is carrying out water-related projects in several countries.
“I believe that the joint projects with PUB to be implemented in Singapore will provide the world with valuable information on water treatment technologies and will be a beneficial opportunity for NEDO,” Fukumizu said.
