As per media reports, coal imports of India have grown rapidly to meet demand for fuel from thermal power plants. The country’s power generation was constrained in June because of limited availability of coal.

TN Thakur, chairman of PTC India, said that the company has already sold 300,000 tonnes of coal to power produces in the April-June quarter. It expects to sell the remaining 400,000 tonnes in rest of the fiscal year.

PTC Energy, a wholly-owned subsidiary of PTC India, had also executed approximately 40,000 tonnes of spot sale-purchase of coal during June quarters, Mr Thakur added.

PTC Energy develops and manages businesses in the energy sector such as power generation, distribution, transmission, tolling, importing coal, taking up energy efficiency projects and providing consultancy services.
