The upgrade is needed by PJM Interconnection, the independent regional planning organization, to provide better power quality and reduce transmission system congestion in the region.
Under this project, the existing 138kV transmission lines will be replaced with 230kV power lines for 35 miles.
Once BPU approval is received, work is expected to begin in early 2012, with an in-service date of June 2014.
