Public Service Electric and Gas Co (PSE&G) has submitted an application to the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities (BPU) for the North Central Reliability Project, which will upgrade power lines and substations in the northern and central regions of New Jersey, US.

The upgrade is needed by PJM Interconnection, the independent regional planning organization, to provide better power quality and reduce transmission system congestion in the region.

Under this project, the existing 138kV transmission lines will be replaced with 230kV power lines for 35 miles.

Once BPU approval is received, work is expected to begin in early 2012, with an in-service date of June 2014.
