Italian cable manufacturing company Prysmian Group has secured two contracts for the development and installation of inter-array cables for two offshore wind farms in Germany and Denmark.
One of the contracts is for German offshore wind farm Mekur, whiich has a generating capacity of 396MW. The contract has been awarded by Tideway.
For the contract, Prysmian will offer design, engineering, manufacturing, testing and supply of about 90km of 33kV submarine inter-array cables and related accessories.
Located in the German North Sea about 45km from the coast and owned by DEME Concessions, InfraRed Capital, Partners Group, GE Energy and Agence de l’Environment et de la Maitrise de l’Energie (ADEME), Mekur offshore wind farm will include 66 of 6MW wind turbines from Haliade.
For the second contract, the Horns Rev 3 project, which is located about 29km from the coast in the Danish North Sea, Prysmian will design and supply more than 100km of 33kV submarine inter-array cables in various cross sections.
The contract for Horns Rev 3 project has been awarded by VBMS, a subsidiary of Royal Boskalis Westminster.
The wind farm will have 49 wind turbines, each with a power-generating capacity of 8MW and a total capacity of 406.7MW.
Prysmian Group Offshore Wind sales team manager Alessandro Panico said: “These two new important awards confirm the market recognition of the significant investments made in our production capabilities for the specific inter-array market segment as well as in our improved project management skills aimed at offering global project solutions to our customers.”
The two contracts are for laying cables that will be used for connecting the turbines in each of the wind farms. According to Prysmian, this is a growing market segment and it claims to be focusing on product innovation and new installation assets and capabilities.
